I’ll have a cup of coffee at least three times a day you see, but I am also quite obsessive in how I go about it. If I am sitting down to watch a film with a friend, or if I am settling down to do some work, I just can’t operate till I get my cuppa. It can make any moment seem better, and it’s for this reason that I just don’t feel like a minute is complete until there’s a cup of coffee there. If you’re still fighting to associate with that feeling though, here’s a little ode to coffee that should help to get you on board.
I’m not referring to the Shaolin style enlightment, but rather the enlightenment in the renaissance feel that we associate with Da Vinci and technological innovation.
Why is this true? Well you return in the middle ages, those living in Europe were unable to drink normal water since it was riddled to illness and this lead to just 1 solution – drinking beer so that the alcohol would disinfect the water.
That of course lead to individuals being somewhat absent minded lots of the time and getting into a lot of fights – in short it was not conducive to the progression of society en-mass.
Enter hot beverages like coffee and tea, however, and suddenly not everyone is spending their whole time in the pub fighting, but instead we are in coffee shops discussing philosophy and politics. Caffeine isn’t just better for you than alcohol, it’s a nootropic that can make you smarter – no wonder society started progressing!
And this ‘coffee culture’ that is responsible for our clean water and printing press still continues today and in fact is having something of a renaissance of its own. Thanks to the internet and portable computing, more and more of us are taking to the coffee shops once again to chat and work and this is where all the hip young start-ups are beginning. And if you’re still stuck in an office? Well I imagine that you use the stimulating power of coffee to help you really get there as well.
But even when we’re not changing the world, coffee is still a terrific social lubricant. Would the TV series ‘Friends’ even exist if it wasn’t for coffee? There is no better feeling than relaxing in a pleasant environment with a buddy while nursing a hot steaming cup of java. And when you’re by yourself? When you are getting Melbourne Bee Removal? Then coffee is the ultimate comfort that will not allow you to gain weight and that’s incredibly soothing as a result of the heat and creaminess.
Happy to stick with filter coffee? Fine, but otherwise there is cappuccino, latte, chi latte… the choices are endless.
